I have been experimenting for a while with both leather and kydex iwb offerings from several manufacturers. In theory, kydex can still break due to heavy loads (especially in such places where the clip is attached, where the holes are drilled, etc.) and it is not that easy to tear leather. I have found a well made kydex holster is gentle on the finish as most of the retention is on the trigger guard. Kydex holster again has the upper hand in durability. A question we get on a regular basis is if a kydex holster will wear the finish of your firearm more than other holsters? However, the hitch there is the holster has to be made correctly, and the ones that are generally are not cheap.
I highly recommend raven concealment, jm custom kydex, garrett, and ozark kydex holsters.
I love a minimalist holster and for me comfortable. Yes, both materials are durable. I am all kydex though one of my garrett silent thunder iwb is leather lined on the inside.
